European Association of Fishing Ports ands Auctions

Created in 1998, the Association represents 135 European Auctions from 8 Member States of the European Union.

Membership is open to all fishing ports and auctions within the EU and to regional or national representative groups.

The association's role is to ensure recognition of auctions as an important branch of the fisheries sector and to coordinate initiatives in areas of common interest such as the promotion of free market mechanisms, traceability, high quality standards, the collection of official data and resource conservation.

Annual general meting open to all members on the basis of one vote per member. Associates may attend, and speak, on issues but not vote on these, the determination of policy or election of the executive. EAFPA objectives

The daily dialogue between fish buyers and producers at auctions contributes to the setting of fair prices for fish

Recognition for the role of fish auctions

To recognise auctions as the premier marketing organisations of fresh fish
To promote appropriate regulatory proposals
To integrate the benefits of auctions in European legislation
To engage in and maintain a constructive dialogue with the European institutions (Commission, Council, Parliament)
Participate in the EU Advisory Committee for Fisheries.

Standardisation

Definition of quality standards for products amongst auctions
Strict hygiene regulation and control
development of best practices between auctions
Integration of standards in European auctions
Generation of product traceability.

Development of an Information System for auctions

Collection of data concerning the activities of European auctions
Communication of data to the European public authorities

Promoting Auctions and their benefits to:

the fisheries sector- free and fair competition open to large and small players
public authorities - collection and exchange of data
consumers - high quality a safety standards, traceability
