Introduction The Association represents the interests of its members on European matters and is now embarked on a progressive programme to develop value adding services. These will be in accordance with the principles set out in the political platform. The role and function of auctions is crucial in ensuring a fair price for fish in open competition within a secure, regulated and hygienic environment. Traceability requires the active participation of auctions and the Association wishes to develop this in a cost effective and cohesive manner. In fact auctions can play a primary role in the application of such systems to all fish as the entry points for the fish in the food European chain. Auctions provide fishermen, and others, with a wide range of essential services - this is often not recognized. EAFPA is establishing a database of these services that will underline these to the industry and to authorities.
As an extension of this comprehensive reference EAFPA intends to develop other information services such as access to weather data and the price of fuel at key European ports.
